Who We Are
Neighbors, Working to Build Something Bigger
West Hollywood Indivisible started the way most local organizing does: a handful of people who knew each other, shared a sense of alarm about what was happening, and decided that showing up for a march every few months wasn't going to be enough.
We're West Hollywood residents working to build a real local presence, one that gives people in this community a way to take meaningful action, whatever their capacity. That means marches and rallies, but also phone calls, letters to the editor, voter registration, and everything in between.
West Hollywood is a small city with a distinct identity. It has a long history of activism on LGBTQ+ rights, on HIV/AIDS, on housing and tenant protections. That history matters to us. We want to be part of a lineage of people in this community who organized when it was necessary and who took that responsibility seriously.
We're affiliated with national Indivisible, which means we use their resources, align with their strategy where it fits, and are listed in their directory of local groups. We're autonomous: we set our own agenda, run our own events, and answer to our community.
What We Stand For
- Democracy Free and fair elections, an independent judiciary, and a government that is accountable to the people it serves — not the other way around.
- Civil Rights The rights of all people — regardless of race, gender, sexuality, immigration status, or disability — to live with dignity and equal protection under the law.
- Local Power Change happens at every level. We focus on what we can do in West Hollywood and California while keeping our eye on federal fights that affect us all.
- Inclusion West Hollywood is a diverse community. We want our group to reflect that. Everyone has something to contribute; there is no single kind of activist.
- Persistence This work is a long game. We're not interested in single-event activism. We want to build something that lasts and can do real work over time.
Our Affiliation
Part of a National Movement
West Hollywood Indivisible is a registered local chapter of Indivisible, a nationwide movement founded in 2016 by former Congressional staffers to provide a practical framework for resisting the Trump agenda through local organizing and constituent pressure.
Indivisible groups are independent — each chapter sets its own agenda and runs its own operations. What the national organization provides is strategic guidance, organizing resources, and coordination across the network. We use what's useful and adapt it to our community.
The national Indivisible Guide — the handbook that started the movement — is updated regularly and available for free at indivisible.org. It's a practical starting point for anyone who wants to understand how this kind of organizing works.
